What’s New at TEXTURA Salon: June 2013

Summer is upon us here in Kitsilano, and to welcome the sunshine we have brought in a plethora of new products and services to help our clients shine!

NEW FROM L’OREAL INOA: ULTRABLONDS!

6948_10151686808029198_925416901_nL’Oreal are known for their innovation, and the INOA Ultra Blond Line is no different. This is the FIRST High Lift AMMONIA FREE color system. As with all INOA shades, the new Ultra Blond line is oil based, which means maximum nourishment and respect for the hair and optimized scalp comfort. This color line is completely revolutionary, possibly even miraculous! Prior to INOA’s Ultra Blond line, high lift blonds were created using high levels of ammonia for ultimate lifting power. However, INOA’s ODS2 allows the same results you would expect from an ammonia-based color, without the odour, damage, and discomfort. Come in to TEXTURA Salon today and see what these blonds can do for you!

NEW FROM PUREOLOGY HIGHLIGHT STYLIST!

Pureology has released a brand new product line just in time for summer! The line is comprised of three products: The Bodifying Luminator, The Gold Definer, and The Sea-Kissed Texturizer. Pureology Highlight Stylist is formulated to reduce the porosity of colored hair, and strengthen highlighted hair in order to keep your new blond radiant and glossy. These products are salt-free, paraben-free, and mineral oil free. These products have olive, apricot, and jojoba oils that even out the porosity of the hair and provide ultimate shine. Food grade red algae provides lightweight texture while allowing the hair to shine on! As with all Pureology products, the Highlight Stylist collection has the Strengthening Antifade Complex: infused with Keravis, these products strengthen the hair internally and externally, virtually stopping breakage and allowing for optimal color retention.

The Bodifying Luminator is a texturizing shine-foam that adds body and shine to highlighted and lightened hair. This lightweight foam is a light hold formula that adds multi-dimensional shine to the hair.

The Sea Kissed Texturizer is a salt-free tousle mist. This spray is non-stripping and lightweight, while providing you with “day-at-the-beach” texture, and radiant shine. If your hair is layered, this product brings out the texture of your haircut without worrying about the hair being weighed down or sticky.

The Gold Definer is a frizz-control gel that is infused with mica to illuminate your highlights. The gel repels moisture to lock out frizz while holding your style. This product can be used on wet or dry hair and is great to use before a blowout for a long lasting, frizz-free style!

TEXTURA Salon Introduces L’Oreal Mythic Oil

beleza-myth-oil-lorealThis month at TEXTURA Salon, we are pleased to introduce L’Oreal’s Mythic Oil product line! We are now carrying their hair care line and finishing oils.

Mythic oil shampoo, conditioner, and masque all offer the power of natural oils, with weightless nourishment! These products are great if you have finer hair and find something like Moroccanoil too thick and heavy for your hair. The Mythic Oil shampoo and conditioner help to cleanse and nourish, while balancing oil distribution from the root to end, leaving your hair shiny and healthy. These products are formulated to be paraben-free!

Mythic Oil Nourishing Oil has avocado and grape seed oil, packed with vitamins and omega-3 oils that deliver nutrients and shine to your hair strand. Grape seed oil is one of the most powerful antioxidants in the world, protecting your hair from pollution, humidity, and other environmental aggressors. The Mythic Oil product locks moisture in the hair strand to protect against frizz, while providing shine and moisture to your hair.

Mythic Oil Reinforcing Milk is great for detangling and strengthening your hair. Their Reinforcing Milk nourishes and softens the hair, while protecting from frizz and environmental damage to even the finest of hair types. Reinforcing Milk contains royalactin, which gives the hair protein and strength, and passioflora oil, which is rich in Vitamin C, Calcium, and Phosphorus, which infuses the hair with protein.

Above all else, L’Oreal’s Mythic Oil products smell PHENOMENAL! These products are rich, luxurious, natural-smelling and not overpowering.

Mythic Oil products are available for sale here at TEXTURA Salon! Mythic Oil and Mythic Oil Milk are available for $28.99. Mythic Oil Shampoo and Conditioner are available for $22.99 each, and the Mythic Oil Masque is available for $30.99. Artist Spotlight: Bailey Dempster

beedee

Bailey Dempster is a Color Artist and Hair Artist at TEXTURA Salon. She has trained at MC College in Kelowna, BC, and has been active in the industry, doing hair for fashion shows and photo shoots across the Okanagan. Bailey moved to Vancouver at the end of October 2012, and joined the team on November 1st. Her natural talent and keen eye for color make her a great asset here at TEXTURA Salon.

When did you realise you wanted to become a hair artist?
I used to cut the hair on all my dolls when I was young, and this interest was carried with me throughout highschool, where I was the unqualified hair stylist to many of my friends, and myself actually. I have always done my own hair, and my friends’ hair as well, and despite diverting from this path for a short while to work on my Bachelor of Communications, my love of hair became the focus of my career path again, and that is when I decided to change my major and applied at MC College. I was pleased to recognize my love of hair and my love of art could be juxtaposed into a career doing something artistic without getting a Bachelor of Fine Arts and then struggling to survive for the rest of my life.

List a few favorites! Bands, musicians, artists, writers, etc.
My favorite bands are Ensiferum, Spank Rock and Led Zeppelin. I also read a lot of Noam Chomsky, Slavoj Zizek, and George R.R. Martin. As for artists, there are too many to name, but Frida Kahlo is definitely up there.

What is your favorite part of being a hair artist?
I love being able to help people find their beauty. Every person alive is beautiful, and I feel like it is my job to help them realize their own beauty through creating a cut and color that suits their face shape, body type, and lifestyle specifically.

If you weren’t a hair artist, what other career could you see yourself doing?
I would probably work on getting my Doctorate in Communications and become a professor and textbook writer, or a fiction writer. Definitely something to do with words, only because I don’t think I could survive from painting or drawing alone.

When you aren’t behind the chair, where can we find you?
I’m usually playing video games, watching movies, writing, reading, or hanging out with my fiancé Jessica.

What approach do you take to hair artistry?
I try to apply my artistic ability in everything that I do. I usually start my services from a very technical place, but then the artist within tends to take over and the combination of these two things is usually something either edgy and fun, or classic and subtle. I love bright colors and bold cuts, but I am also in love with mimicking that which nature is capable of, although may not have given us.

If you had the chance to meet any person, alive or deceased, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Karl Marx, Frida Kahlo, or Noam Chomsky. I just want to meet people that had a huge impact on the planet while doing what they loved. Also, I believe these people helped to make this world a better place, and even though things still aren’t perfect, I feel like we are a lot better off with their contributions. I would love to talk about their views on things, and discuss their theories and ideas.

Bailey is in the salon on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 9-5, and Sundays and Mondays from 11-3. To book an appointment with her, please call TEXTURA Salon at 778-329-3885.

Lots of love,

The Staff at TEXTURA Salon.

Artist Spotlight: Beth Lugtu

Beth Lugtu is the Owner, Creative Director, and Leading Hair Artist at TEXTURA Salon. She is trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London, and opened TEXTURA Salon over 6 years ago. She is the Western Educator for Pureology, and she is renowned for her precision, and her dedication to the client and the industry.

When did you realise you wanted to become a hair artist?
I was about 7 years old when my Grandma sent me my very first curling iron. I curled everybody’s hair.

List a few favorites! Bands, musicians, artists, writers, etc.
Lady Gaga

What is your favorite part of being a hair artist?
My Favourite part about being a Hair Artist is when I am able to bring out the inner confidence of the person who sits in my chair after a haircut/colour.

If you weren’t a hair artist, what other career could you see yourself doing?
Fashion Design or Architecture

When you aren’t behind the chair, where can we find you?
Art Galleries, Granville Island, Gym

What approach do you take to hair artistry?
For me, it’s all about the classic, architectural approach with individual flare. But when given the chance by a client, it’s about evoking hair art!

If you had the chance to meet any person, alive or deceased, who would it be and why?
Coco Chanel. She was a very strong woman who left a very strong brand legacy. She inspired me to be bold and uncompromising with my work.

You can find Beth hard at work in the salon Tuesday to Saturday, from 9-6. As always, please phone us at 778-329-3885 any time to book an appointment.

Lots of love,
